A New Approach

Blending incentivisation and education is the key to motivation

At Loyaltynet we believe the highest levels of motivation exist when people can clearly see that you are going to help them to achieve their goals.

All too often organisations believe that simply providing some form of new or additional incentive is the answer to increased motivation, focus and determination. In many cases it can have a negative effect, actually de-motivating large numbers of your target audience.

Most people like to be incentivised. They appreciate the opportunity of being acknowledged and rewarded for their efforts. But all too often a fundamental element of the incentivisation process is overlooked. There is no better time to help people become more effective in their job, than during the course of an incentivisation programme.

When people are more effective, not only do they produce better results, but they also have increased levels of job satisfaction. In 2005 the Consumer Analysis Group studied 1,000 sales and marketing staff. More than 40% believed that pursuing relevant training would help them achieve happiness at work.

"Many companies do believe in special awards but use them exclusively to honour the top few (who already are so highly motivated they would probably have done their thing anyway). More vital are the ribbons for a good show by the common man. As McPherson states, the real key to success is helping the middle 60 percent up a few steps".
